Shopflix - the greek Amazon alternative

Shopflix is one of Greece's largest e-commerce platforms, connecting buyers and sellers across the Greek mainland and islands. The project was a full backend migration away from CS-Cart, a legacy system that had become a bottleneck — unable to handle peak loads of up to 15,000 new product offers per minute and the logistics complexity that comes with serving an archipelago of islands.

As part of a seven-person backend team, my focus was on three interconnected problems: integrating Algolia search in a way that stayed accurate under continuous high-throughput offer updates, building a performant offer sync pipeline capable of processing 5,000+ updates per minute under regular load, and implementing OAuth2 authentication across the new Spryker-based architecture.

A significant part of the work was coordination — keeping the frontend and backend teams aligned on search behaviour, offer state, and authentication flows, so that what was being built on both sides remained consistent as the migration progressed.

The result is a platform that handles millions of orders monthly without the performance ceilings that plagued its predecessor.
